Spanish

2nd graders practiced reading a simplified version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar in Spanish.  After several weeks of learning the alphabet and the vowel sounds in Spanish, the students illustrated a comic strip.  They read the story in Spanish to Ms. Lisa’s preschool class at Graland in small groups.  Some second graders were nervous to read to younger students but when it was complete, felt a sense of accomplishment (and relief!)  It also gave the students the opportunity to practice conversation skills after they completed their reading.  The class suggested questions to ask a three or four year old such as, “What’s your favorite special at Graland,” and “What’s your favorite lunch?”  Overall, reading in Spanish was a challenging, energetic and successful activity!
