Spanish
2nd graders practiced reading a simplified version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar in Spanish. After several weeks of learning the alphabet and the vowel sounds in Spanish, the students illustrated a comic strip. They read the story in Spanish to Ms. Lisa’s preschool class at Graland in small groups. Some second graders were nervous to read to younger students but when it was complete, felt a sense of accomplishment (and relief!) It also gave the students the opportunity to practice conversation skills after they completed their reading. The class suggested questions to ask a three or four year old such as, “What’s your favorite special at Graland,” and “What’s your favorite lunch?” Overall, reading in Spanish was a challenging, energetic and successful activity!

12 Days of Christmas
We hope you will be able to join us for the Holiday Sing-Along on the last day of school. The second graders will be singing the 12 Days of Christmas with their 6th grade buddies. We got together with our buddies today so we could teach them the actions!

Gooney Bird Greene Day
We had a class full of wonderfully, mis-matched outfits this morning to celebrate Gooney Bird Greene Day. The students completed Gooney Bird inspired math, reading, writing, and drawing activities. Thank you for all your help with creating the outfits. We hope you like the photos!

It's OK To Be...
We worked with Mrs. Riley to create a book inspired by the author Todd Parr. We learned to celebrate our differences and be proud of who we are.

Halloween
Our Halloween party was so much fun this afternoon. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make it such a success. The 2nd graders rotated around all four classrooms and enjoyed a different Halloween themed activity in each room. They wrapped mummies, hunted for eyeballs in spaghetti, and created a variety of crafts. Hope you enjoy the photos...

Field Day
Buddy Field Day was a complete success. The 2nd graders were excited to see their buddies again so soon! The class rotated between 4 activities beginning with The Galaxy, where students had to work in teams to get 'Luke Skywalker' (a pingpong ball!) from one end of the galaxy (multi-purpose room) to the other using short lengths of half pipe. Team work was also essential for the bridge challenge where students had to create a bridge with blocks, all balance on it, then move the bridge forwards while all still standing on the blocks.
