Shopping

For the last few weeks, Ashley has been teaching a mini unit on money.  Today was the culmination of all the learning that has taken place.  It was shopping day!  The students have spent time creating their own stores, making signs, and selecting and pricing items to sell.   This afternoon, the second graders took turns being shoppers and sellers.  The shoppers loved deciding how to spend their $20, and the store owners were excited to figure out their profits!  Working to calculate change was a joint effort!  We hope you hear all about it!  Here are some photos from the shopping extravaganza!

Valentine's Day Party

Our Valentine's Day party was a total success!  The students enjoyed four different stations: poetry writing, cookie decorating, painting, and playing bingo.  Thank you to our volunteers who decorated the classroom, ran the stations, and provided creative healthy snacks!  We had so much fun!

The Road to Research

As we continue on The Road to Research, in preparation for the Biography Tea, the students began a mini biography project yesterday.  They will be sharing this project with you at Student-led conferences in March.  Each pair was assigned a person of color who has made a significant contribution to society.  The students will work together to create notes, write a report, select appropriate photos from the internet, and finally produce a poster which they will present to their classmates.
